Five Ideas to Reduce Negativity and Increase Your Success

Several years ago I made the decision to place a greater focus on surrounding myself with positive people and thought patterns. At the time I was an out of shape, overweight, stressed out road warrior. Originally my new positivity plan helped me lose alot of weight, but it has improved my life in other ways as well. I became more focused, started a new business, and started connecting with wonderful people who helped raise my level of performance. Most recently, surrounding myself with positive people and thought patterns has been one of the strategies that has helped me on my healing journey living with chronic Lyme disease.

Be Proactive to Create Positivity in Your Life
Changing one’s thought patterns from negative to positive is something everyone has the power to do. If I can do it with chronic Lyme disease, anyone can do it.

Following are my five top ideas to reduce negative noise:

  1. Turn off the news. Most TV news today is sensationalized. They are in business to make money by selling advertising. It seems like every 5 seconds there is some kind of ‘news alert’ on the TV news channels. Turning off the news has really helped me become much more positive about everything. If something important happens I know I’ll hear about it.
  2. Spend more time with positive people. If the people you spend the most time with are always negative, this will rub off on you. If you find yourself falling short on your business goals, life goals, weight management or otherwise, then make some changes with who you spend time with. Surround yourself with people who will be encouraging, enjoy the lifestyle you crave, and are fun to be around.
  3. Read positive books, articles and blogs or listen to audio books or podcasts. There are so many great, inspirational authors and speakers out there. If you’re wondering where to start, go to websites like hayhouse.com, and you can find many different positive, inspirational authors to choose from. Podcasts are a great free resource for positive messages whether you are looking for business, personal, or spiritual motivation or personal transformation thought leaders, you can find podcasts to suit your needs. Some of my current favorite podcasts that I shuffle between are: The Tony Robbins Podcast, The Go-Giver Podcast with Bob Burg, The Garyvee Audio Experience, and The Tim Ferriss Show.
  4. Spend less time on the Internet, including Social Media. I find I have to be extremely disciplined to avoid getting distracted and getting ‘hooked’ into reading, or viewing negative Internet stories. And who really knows the validity of the author? Spend your Internet time wisely to avoid getting blindsided by negativity.
  5. Start your day with positive thoughts. Some ideas here are to write down a few things you are grateful for or you can meditate or pray. I have found that 5 minutes of meditation first-thing in the morning is a great way to start my day. It doesn’t take long to do any of these things, but it can make a big difference on how you start your day!

Try these ideas and let me know how they work out for you!

What positivity strategies do you practice daily that have worked for you?
