How Do You Use Your Travel Time?

Learn While Traveling

I turned my car into a library

I spend a lot of time driving and flying.  One year I logged about 46,000 business miles. Another over 100,000 flying miles  That’s ALOT of traveling.  I have a few strategies I’ve incorporated to help turn my trips more productive.  I view my traveling time now as “training time” to help improve my professional skills and also learn about healthy living.  Here is how I have turned my travel into personal training time.

I Love Audible.com!

The primary game changer for me was when I subscribed to Audible.com.  I found there are thousands of audio books available for virtually unlimited listening!  Some of my favorite recent “listens” are; Right Now by Steve Chandler, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill, Loving What Is by Byron Katie, and The War of Art by Steven Pressfield.

I have found the user interface incredibly easy to maneuver.  The Audible app makes it easy to turn the books on or off, and to pause (while driving) if necessary.  It is also easy to switch back and forth between books, which is great for me as I listen to multiple books at the same time (not quite literally).  I’ve been using Audible for a few years now and am a very happy customer.  By the way, Audible is not paying me to say any of this… I just really like the service.

I keep my learning library on my smartphone

Podcasts are great too!

I have many different podcasts that I subscribe to. Some of my favorites are Michael Neill’s Caffeine for the Soul, Real Business Real Lives by Barbara Patterson and The Go-Giver Podcast with Bob Burg. The Go-Giver is one of the best sales podcasts I’ve found. I enjoy Bob Burg’s interview style and he has some fantastic guests I find valuable and entertaining to listen to.

Other ways to learn in my car

I’ve also downloaded different mp3 audio files on courses I’ve purchased. This is another great way to take my training with me on the road.

Bonus

Kindle app for iPhone has been a great way to read a few pages or a chapter here and there between flights, rest stops on the road, or at my hotel before I got to sleep at night. It’s an easy, convenient way to learn by reading when I’m “on the go”. I’m currently reading The Enlightened Gardener” by Sydney Banks and Medical Medium by Anthony William.

I find that my strategy works for me and makes my travel more productive, while also contributing to my overall positive health and well-being.

What strategies do you use for continuous learning as you travel?
