I was listening to one of my favorite transformational coaches, Michael Neill, interview best selling author Anita Moorjani, author of “Dying to Be Me”; which is a book about her experience of living with cancer and then her miraculous near death experience and full recovery from cancer. In the interview, one of the topics they discussed was fear.
The interview took place last August, 2019. One of the conversations led to talking about what possibilities lie on the other side of fear. Which made me think this is a great subject to be discussing right now with what is happening around the world with COVID-19.
In my experience, fear causes humans to react and make decisions they would not normally take. Fear can be a normal, healthy response to situations. For example, fear and the accompanying adrenaline rush can help a person escape from a dangerous situation like running away from a wild animal. But too much fear, or an extended period of fear can paralyze a person or lead to poor decision making.
I know fear first-hand with my experience battling chronic Lyme Disease over the past few years. At my lowest point, my heavy travel schedule, combined with lack of sleep, body pain, dizziness, and other accompanying Lyme symptoms led to deep fear and ultimately to a period of depression. I didn’t know how to dig out of the hole and stop the fear. I was at a point I would do nearly anything to make it to go away.
Fortunately after a lot of trial and error, I created a strong medical team which have helped me recover. My naturopath, chiropractor, acupuncturist, and primary care physician all worked together to get me back pointed in a healthy direction. I am grateful to say that I am back to myself again.
In addition, I discovered The Three Principles. The Three Principles is an understanding of the human experience that was discovered over 40 years ago by a man named Sydney Banks. Syd’s insights about the human experience have impacted the lives of people from all over the world, from all walks of life. The Three Principles that Syd shared with the world are Mind, Consciousness, and Thought. Essentially as humans, we have the ability to think and create our own reality. Thought is the vehicle we use to create form from the formless. Thinking creates our experience of life. Our Consciousness provides us the ability to be aware of our thinking and experiences. Mind is the universal intelligence that will provide us with new thought…if we are able to slow down our thinking.
The Three Principles are a basis for my coaching practice and have helped many clients see the power of thought. I also practice the Principles in my day to day life, which has helped me heal from chronic Lyme Disease. It has also helped me face many challenges, most recently COVID-19, which has presented several business and personal challenges. When I start to feel sad or have bad thoughts enter my head, I know that I have the ability to not give these thoughts energy. I know that if I were to give these thoughts energy they will become my reality.
Instead I’ve learned to let these thoughts pass.
I still get negative, or fearful thoughts, I just don’t give them energy. And when that happens I know they will go away. Just like clouds pass you by… so can my fearful thoughts.
For me, the beauty of “being on the other side of fear” is that when we don’t give energy to fearful thoughts, this leaves room for new thought to enter our heads.
This is when miracles happen.
