Walking is healthy
Walking is one of the best exercises available for anyone, regardless of your age or athletic ability. It is low impact, is great for your health, and just takes a comfortable pair of shoes and some space to do it. As a busy professional, I find that walking is the easiest exercise to fit into my busy schedule. It’s always easy get a short walk in to stretch my legs, regardless of the weather.
My favorite way to walk
My favorite way to exercise is walking is with my wife. If you’ve been following my blog posts you know I love to swim. But walking with my wife is the most fulfilling exercise I do. My wife and I walk at least 4-5 times a week together for about 45 minutes. I did a Google search to find the health benefits of walking, and found this one to be helpful Health Benefits of Walking. Number 4 is of particular interest to me, as I have been working for the past few years on decreasing inflammation in my body.
Try walking with your spouse or partner!
My experience with walking with my wife has resulted in the many benefits. My top three benefits of walking with my wife have been:
- Improved communication with my wife – walking provides us 45 minutes of uninterrupted time to think and talk together. I am very present when I’m walking with my wife and find that my outside distractions usually seem to melt away when we are walking. Our lives are so busy that we relish this time to talk about what is on our minds. Things that we’ve been thinking about and need to discuss. Our dreams, goals, and vision for our life. Walking together has been a great way to improve our communication.
- Increased health – Approximately 10 years ago I started my weight loss journey. After I had lost 15 pounds or so, I started to gain my energy back. One of the things I did to help me lose weight was to walk regularly with my wife. It was helpful to have a walking “buddy” to motivate me to get out of the house when I didn’t feel like it. Having my wife as my training partner really helped.
- Has kept me sharp and energized – Walking with my wife has also helped keep me at the top of my game in my professional life. After I walk, I often have great ideas and am able to focus on work better. Walking helps clear my mind of busy clutter and keeps me sharp.
If you are looking for a natural way to increase your health, I recommend starting with walking. If you can walk with someone else it is even better, and has certainly improved my life.
